3 port CWDM
Products Description
The three-port CWDM is a core passive optical device designed based on thin-film filter (TFF) technology. It is widely used in short-distance optical communication transmission scenarios.
According to ITU criteria, channel spacing of CWDM is 20nm, featuring high transmission bandwidth and cost savings. It has a relatively wide spacing between multiplexed wavelengths, which greatly reduces the requirements for lasers and multiplexers/demultiplexers, significantly lowering the cost of capacity expansion. CWDM supports 18 wavelengths ranging from 1270-1620nm, therefore, the channel count for a CWDM device varies from 2 to 18 depending on customization of actual use.
In structure, the three-port CWDM includes three ports: common port (COM), pass-through port (Pass), and reflection port (Reflect), which achieve the purpose of wavelength division and multiplexing for specific wavelengths.

FAQ
Q: What is the CWDM channel wavelength plan?
A: CWDM has nominal 18 channels at 20nm spacing: 1271nm, 1291nm, 1311nm....1611nm. And, because of the water peak, it is more frequent to use 1470nm to 1620nm for channel counts like 2,4 and 8.
Q: How far can CWDM transmit?
A: CWDM channel spacing and wavelengths are standardized in ITU-T G.694.2. CWDM is a cost-efficient option for shorter distances and simpler deployments where capacity requirements are limited, typically up to 70-80 kilometers.
